PLEASANTDALE GARDEN CLUB MEETINGS & PROGRAMS
                                          2018-2019_MEETING YEAR________
               All Member & Board Meetings will be held at 
                    the Pleasantdale Park District Building,
7425 South Wolf Road, Burr Ridge, unless otherwise noted.

Board meetings begin at 9:00 a.m.  
Member meetings begin at 10:00 a.m. with a social time of coffee and culinary treats prepared by members, followed by our business meeting and the scheduled programs below.

Join us for our regular hospitality time with coffee and treats at 10:00 am, 

followed by our club Business meeting, and then our monthly program.


September 12, 2018 - Meeting 10 am

Program:  The Lyme Disease Epidemic & What Gardeners Need to Know

Laura Christensen, gardening speaker and recovered Lymes disease patient, will tell us what the symptoms are, how to best protect ourselves, and how to get accurate testing.  A program gardeners should not miss!

September 21    District II Presidents’ Roundtable Meeting

   10:00 am Bloomingdale Country Club, Bloomingdale


 October 10 –   Meeting - 10 am

Program:  White Elephant Auction & Baked Goods (holiday-themed items)

Members are asked to donate two (only) gently used or new items from any holiday season: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas Easter, July 4, etc.  We will also auction home-made baked goods (made by a special committee).  

Members can invite friends to attend and purchase items.

November 14 –   Meeting 10 am

Program:  Member Workshop by Bill Kargas: Bill will bring materials and teach us how to successfully force Paperwhite bulbs to bring a little Spring into our Fall homes.  $10 per member, bring your own vase.

 December 12– Meeting 10 am

Program: Member Holiday Workshop by Peggy Garvin: Peggy will teach us how to make a fresh Christmas Door Swag.  Bring clippers!

Members are also asked to bring 2 dozen home baked cookies.  One dozen should be packaged for a local retirement home, and one for the members to enjoy.

January 9, 2019– Meeting 10 am

Program: Member Pot Luck Brunch

Every member attending is asked to bring a food dish item to share and any needed serving utensils.  Members can bring a guest if they pay $5 in advance.

January 18 - District II Program Chairpersons' Meeting
10 a.m. Indian Prairie Public Library, Darien


February 13- Meeting 10 am

Program: History of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Chicago

Informative slide presentation will include information on the formation and history of the MWRDC.  Our speaker will touch on the need for trees necessary for water conservation, and also cover the proper way to dispose of unused pills/drugs.

March 13 - Meeting 10 am

Program:  The Prairie's Frequent Flyers: Dragonflies and Damselflies

Cindy Crosby, author and ecology instructor, will tell us about these mystifying and amazing insects and what they can tell us about the health of our water and world.

March 15 - District II Annual Meeting and Luncheon

9:30 am Abbington Banquets, Glen Ellyn.  Prior reservation required.


April 7-8 - Garden Clubs of Illinois State Convention

April 10– Meeting 10 am

Program: Member Workshop by Laurie Mourisak
Laurie will teach us how to paint and decorate a small Spring outdoor pallet.  
Show off your artistic talents!  $12.50 per person.

April 24 - 9:00 am Board meeting only today

May 1 - NO MEETING – ANNUAL SPRING LUNCHEON
11:30 am - Club Annual Spring Luncheon, Raffle and Program*
Location: Capri Banquets, 6240 Joliet Rd., Countryside 

 

An entertaining fashion show program by Chico's will be presented, 
along with wonderful raffle prizes and lunch. 
A college scholarship will also be awarded to a student from Lyons Township 
High School.

Tickets must be purchased no later than two weeks prior to the event for 

a $32 donation (there are no refunds, this is a donation).

June 5 - 9:00 am Board meeting only


 June 12 - CLUB MEMBER OUTING AND 

                    INSTALLATION OF NEW OFFICERS

 Club members will carpool to visit a beautiful garden in Orland Park, followed by a surprise location for lunch.  Members can meet at the Park District at 9:30 am to arrive at the garden at 10:00 am.

Bobbie Hett will provide details and price of the trip at one of our meetings.
