    PLEASANTDALE GARDEN CLUB MEETINGS & PROGRAMS
                                          2020-2021_MEETING YEAR
               All Member & Board Meetings will be held at 
                    the Pleasantdale Park District Building,
7425 South Wolf Road, Burr Ridge, unless otherwise noted.


Monthly Board meetings begin at 9:00 a.m.  
Member meetings begin at 10:00 a.m. with a social hospitality time of coffee and culinary treats prepared by members, followed by our business meeting and the scheduled programs below.  
 

NOTE:  DUE TO COVID 19 HEALTH CONCERNS WE WILL NOT BE SERVING COFFEE OR FOOD AT OUR MEETINGS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. 

GUESTS ARE ALSO RESTRICTED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

CALENDAR OF EVENTS


September 9, 2020 - 10 am Member meeting & Program

Program: 5 Ways to Preserve Your Harvest - Emily Paster will give a power point presentation on canning, fermenting, and more.  Designed for gardeners and everyone who shops at farmers markets.


September 18     District II Presidents’ Roundtable Meeting


October 14 - 10 am Member meeting & Workshop

Program Workshop Requires Member Pre-signup and payment.

Peggy Garvin has been a florist for 40 years and owns Garvin Gardens, 

a floral design shop. Peggy will teach members how to make a Fall

floral arrangement.   Pre-signup with Jan McFarland


November 11 - Member meeting & Program

Program: Recycling and Sustainability - Kay McKeen from SCARCE, 

a non-profit organization, will educate us on how we can positively

impact our environment with tips and tricks for reducing our

carbon footprint.  


December 9 - Member meeting, Holiday Grab Bag & Cookies_

Program: Each participating member will bring a $15 new item relating

to indoor or outdoor gardening and we will play a grab bag game.

Members are also asked to bring 2 dozen home baked cookies.  

One dozen should be packaged for a local retirement home, and one for 

the members to enjoy.  Please wrap separately.

January 13, 2021– 10 am Meeting & Program

Program: Member Pot Luck Brunch (sorry, no guests)

Every member attending is asked to bring a food dish item to share and any needed serving utensils.   Questions: Allison Koehler

February 10 - 10 am Meeting & Program

Program: Celebrating our Club's Birthday Month,

we will watch a film about Monarch Butterflies.

 

March 10 - 10 am Meeting & Program

Program: Native Plants for Small Gardens - Heather Prince is an

associate editor of The American Gardener magazine with experience at 

The Morton Arboretum, Chicago Botanic Garden, and Wannamaker's.

As a trained horticulturist, she will tell us about using native plants to

attract pollinators and birds and give us seasons of color. 

 

March 19 - 9:30 - District II Annual Meeting and Luncheon -

Abbington Banquets, Glen Ellyn.  Prior reservation required.


April 14– 10 am Meeting & Program  

Program: White Elephant Auction (all holidays items)
Members are asked to donate very gently used or new items from
any holiday season, including Halloween Thanksgiving, Christmas,
Easter, 4th of July.  We will auction all items with proceeds going to 
our Club endeavors. 

April 18-19 - Garden Clubs of Illinois State Convention

Double Tree Hilton, Lisle        Prior signup required. 


April 28 - 9:00 am Board meeting only today  

May 5 - NO MEETING – ANNUAL SPRING LUNCHEON 
11:30 am - Club Annual Spring Luncheon, Raffle and Program*
Location: Capri Banquets, 6240 Joliet Rd., Countryside 

Time:  11:30 am   Lunch at 12 noon

Program: Fabulous Spring Florals by Kathi Rose, Kaleidoscope of Design     


A college scholarship will also be awarded to a student from Lyons Township 
High School.

Tickets must be purchased no later than two weeks prior to the event for 

a $32 donation (there are no refunds, this is a donation).

June 2 - 9:00 am Board meeting only


 June 9 - CLUB MEMBER OUTING & WORKSHOP - pre-signup
Members will paint a garden stepping stone at We Grow Dream Nursery
in West Chicago.  Their plant nursery will be open for shopping!

 
July 19 - Garden Clubs of Illinois Summer Meeting - Champaign Urbana
Tickets must be purchased in advance.
