PLEASANTDALE GARDEN CLUB MEETINGS & PROGRAMS
2022-2023_MEETING YEAR
All Member & Board Meetings will be held at
the Pleasantdale Park District Building,
7425 South Wolf Road, Burr Ridge, unless otherwise noted.
Member meetings begin at 10:00 a.m. with a social hospitality time of coffee and culinary treats prepared by our members, followed by our business meeting and the scheduled programs below.
CALENDAR OF EVENTS
September 14, 2022 - 10 am Member meeting & Program
Program: Don't Squash That Bug by Jim Rowan
Jim has a natural science degree from Northeastern IL University. There are over a million species of insects and spiders on the planet, with 25,00 in Illinois alone! Jim will introduce us to some, and teach us how to separate some of the "good guys" from the "bad guys".
September 16 District II Presidents’ Roundtable Meeting
October 12 - 10 am Member meeting & Program
Program: Our Climate Crisis by Ken Taylor
Kent was personally trained by former VP Al Gore, who also helped create this presentation, Kent will discuss the science, observed evidence, how we got here and what we can do to minimize effects of global warming.
November 9 - Member meeting & Program
Program: Club Member White Elephant Auction
Members are asked to bring two items to be auctioned off to raise funds for our club endeavors. This year friends are invited to attend and bid on some items!
December 14 - Member meeting
Program: Holiday Grab Bag & Cookies
Each participating member/guest is asked to bring a $15 gift wrapped new item relating to food or cooking and we will play a fun grab bag game.
Members are also asked to bring 2 dozen home baked cookies. One dozen should be wrapped on a paper plate which will be gathered together and given to a local retirement home. The other dozen will be set on our treat table for the members to share and enjoy. Please wrap separately.

Program: Member Pot Luck Brunch
Every member attending is asked to bring a food dish item to share and any needed serving utensils.

Program: Animal Resistant Gardening by Mel Zaloudek
Mel is a former member of the horticulture faculty at Triton College. Mel says that rabbits, deer and squirrels seem to enjoy our garden more than we do sometimes, and that we are constantly adapting our defense strategies! Learn a combination of tactical plant selection, barriers and repellents. Get peace of mind!
March 8 - 10 am Meeting & Member Workshop
Program: Learning about the history of the Robert Vial House and Gardens with Alice Latham
Every wonder about the history of this house on Wolf Road and what it means to the community? Join us to find out more!
March 17 - 10 am District II Annual Spring Luncheon and Meeting at Arrowhead Golf Club, Wheaton .
April 12– 10 am Meeting & Program
Program: Low Maintenance Gardening by Carol Cichorski
Carol's first garden was high maintenance but she's past that now. She now uses principles for less work and low costs that you can use too:
